Grandma Jean’s Oatmeal Cookies

Thanks very much to our friend Candice and her Grandma Jean for this delicious and simple oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe! These have been a staple in their house for years, and we’re excited to share them with you today. 💗

Here’s what you’ll need:

½ tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

2 tbsp boiling water

1 cup butter

1 ¼ cups brown sugar

2 cups flour

2 cups small rolled oats

¾ cup chocolate chips (optional)

Directions:

(Scroll down for step-by-step instructions and photos!)

Preheat your oven to 350° F. Prepare a cookie sheet by lining it with parchment paper.

In a small bowl, whisk together vanilla, baking soda, salt and boiling water. Set aside.

In a large bowl, mix butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. We used a Kitchen Aid mixed to achieve this texture, but it can be done by hand! 💪

Add the vanilla, baking soda, salt and water mixture to the butter and sugar. Then, mix in the flour and oats and fold in the chocolate chips.

Form the dough into small balls and place them on the cookie sheet. Leave a generous amount of room for them to expand in the oven. Press the balls down with a fork to flatten them slightly. Ensure that the fork is wet so the dough doesn’t stick to it.

Bake for 10 minutes. Enjoy!
